TV mounting Shady Hollow Austin homeowners ask about usually involves more than one room. Shady Hollow sits in southwest Austin in the 78739 area, close to Circle C Ranch, and it is mostly single-family housing, where a living room, a bedroom and a game room can each end up with a TV on the wall. That changes how an install gets planned. Every room has its own wall, its own furniture underneath the screen and its own outlet, so the cord plan has to be worked out room by room instead of once for the whole house. We do a lot of work next door in Circle C Ranch, including this 65-inch LG with an in-wall power relocation kit in Circle C Ranch. So when a Shady Hollow homeowner booked one visit for two TVs, both with in-wall power, it was a job we know well.

65-inch Samsung TV with Sonos Beam soundbar mounted on the wall, TV mounting Shady Hollow Austin

The appointment covered two TVs. The first was a 65-inch Samsung with a Sonos Beam soundbar installed directly under it, and the second was a 55-inch TCL Roku TV. Both went on the wall with a power relocation kit for in-wall cord concealment. A power relocation kit installs a power connection behind the TV and a matching connection down at the existing outlet, joined by cable rated to run inside the wall, so the TV’s power cord no longer drops down the wall to an outlet near the floor. In the finished photo, the Samsung is centered above a wood media console with the Beam sitting just below the screen and nothing hanging down the wall. The TCL is mounted above a wooden dresser in its own space. Each TV was billed by its own size range, 61 to 74 inches for the Samsung and 32 to 60 inches for the TCL, with a separate power relocation kit for each screen. Finished install: a 65-inch Samsung with a Sonos Beam and a 55-inch TCL Roku TV, each mounted with in-wall power so no power cord shows on the wall.

If you are deciding how to handle the cords on your own TV, there are three common routes, and we do all of them. A power relocation kit, the route used on this job, puts the power inside the wall. It means cutting into the wall, so it makes sense for owners who want the cleanest result and are fine with wall work. An external cord cover mounts on the surface of the wall and hides the cables in a channel, with no cuts in the wall for the wires, which suits renters and anyone who would rather not open the wall. A recessed outlet swap replaces the existing outlet with a recessed one so the TV can sit flush and the plug stays out of sight, and it is a good fit where the outlet is already in the right spot behind the TV. The soundbar is its own decision. The Sonos Beam is a compact soundbar, short enough to sit under a 65-inch TV without crowding it, and it is a clear step up from built-in TV speakers for dialogue. If you already own Sonos speakers, the Beam can join the same system, and that is worth knowing before you buy.
