Circle C Ranch is one of southwest Austin’s most established master-planned communities — the family-friendly grid off Mopac south of William Cannon, where 2000s and 2010s custom homes sit alongside newer sections and homeowners have built one of the most stable and well-maintained neighborhoods in the metro. The primary living rooms here are sized right for a 65″ TV as the main entertainment focus, and the homeowners tend to be professional families who care about details being done properly. So when a Circle C Ranch homeowner reached out about mounting a 65″ LG TV in their living room with the power cord hidden inside the wall using a code-compliant in-wall power kit, we knew this was the kind of straightforward premium install where doing every step to code delivers exactly the clean finished result the homeowner is after.

The setup was a 65″ LG TV mounted on a low-profile fixed wall mount with a UL-listed in-wall power transfer kit bringing a code-compliant outlet directly behind the TV. We located and anchored into studs (drywall anchors alone will not hold a 50-pound TV long-term — stud anchoring is non-negotiable for any TV over about 40 pounds), set the mount level and centered on the wall, and hung the TV at proper couch viewing height. Then the power kit: we cut a code-compliant receptacle box behind the TV, ran in-wall-rated wiring inside the wall down to a second code-compliant receptacle at the standard outlet height, and terminated both ends properly. That’s the legally correct way to have power behind the TV without a visible cord — a standard TV power cord is not rated for in-wall use and running one inside a wall is both an electrical code violation and a real fire risk. HDMI and signal cables were routed through the wall via low-voltage pass-through plates down to the equipment location. Finished wall: only the TV, no power cord, no visible cabling, and every detail code-compliant.

The in-wall power relocation kit is the piece of a professional TV install that separates a code-compliant job from a cheap one, and most homeowners never even hear about it before hiring. Here’s the code question in plain terms: standard TV power cords are NOT rated for in-wall use. They’re rated for open-air use only, and running a standard cord inside a closed wall cavity violates the National Electrical Code and creates a real fire risk because the cord isn’t rated to dissipate heat inside drywall. The legally correct solution is a UL-listed in-wall power transfer kit: an in-wall-rated receptacle behind the TV connected by in-wall-rated wiring to a second receptacle at the standard outlet height. Both receptacles are code-compliant, the wiring between them is rated for in-wall use, and the entire system passes electrical inspection. Some installers skip this step and run a standard cord inside the wall to save $75-150 in kit cost. We don’t. That extra cost is meaningful protection against a fire risk that shows up years down the road, and the finished wall looks identical either way. There is no reason to do it the wrong way.
