Crestview is one of Central Austin’s most popular and walkable neighborhoods — a tight-knit community of mid-century homes and apartments near the Crestview rail station and Burnet Road, home to a vibrant mix of young professionals, renters, and longtime residents. Because so many people in Crestview rent or lease their homes, a common challenge comes up again and again: how do you get a clean, mounted TV without drilling into walls you don’t own or losing your security deposit? So when a Crestview renter reached out about mounting a 50″ Samsung TV with the wires hidden in a way that wouldn’t damage the wall, we had exactly the right solution.
The customer was renting, so running cables inside the wall was off the table — in-wall work means cutting into drywall, which a landlord won’t allow and a tenant shouldn’t risk. Instead, we mounted the 50″ Samsung TV securely into the studs (a clean, patchable set of mount holes is standard and easily repaired at move-out), and concealed the cables using a paintable external cord cover that runs flush down the wall from the TV to the outlet. The cord cover hides the power and HDMI cables completely, can be painted to match the wall color, and leaves no significant damage. The result is a tidy, professional-looking mounted TV that gives a renter the clean setup they want without the wall surgery that would cost them their deposit.
Renter-friendly installs are their own skill set. The goal is to deliver the cleanest possible look while keeping wall damage to the minimum a landlord will accept — which usually means a few patchable mount holes and nothing more. An external cord cover (also called a cable raceway) is the right tool: it adheres or screws flush to the wall, channels all the cabling out of sight, and can be painted to disappear against the wall color. The skill is in mounting the TV solidly into studs so it’s safe, routing the cover in a perfectly straight vertical line so it looks intentional rather than tacked-on, and keeping every hole patchable. Plenty of renters assume a clean mounted TV isn’t an option for them — it absolutely is, and it’s one of our most requested services in apartment-heavy neighborhoods like Crestview.
