Westlake is one of the most established and sought-after addresses in the entire Austin metro — the wooded hillside community west of MoPac and south of Bee Cave Road, anchored by the renowned Eanes ISD and home to some of the largest custom estates in Central Texas. The primary living rooms here tend to be sized for the architecture — soaring ceilings, expansive walls, and the kind of architectural scale that genuinely calls for a large-format display rather than a standard one. So when a Westlake homeowner reached out about mounting an 85″ TV with a soundbar and a full in-wall power relocation kit, we knew this install was going to be the kind of premium “do it right” project we love handling for west Austin homes.
The setup was an 85″ TV mounted on a heavy-duty low-profile fixed mount, with a matching soundbar mounted directly below, and a full in-wall power relocation kit to keep the entire wall completely clean. We located and anchored into multiple studs to safely distribute the cantilevered load of the 85″ display, carefully lifted the TV into place with the right crew, and set it perfectly level and centered on the wall. We then mounted the soundbar below with exact spacing and a level laser line, and installed a UL-listed in-wall power transfer kit to bring a code-compliant outlet directly behind the TV — eliminating any visible power cord. Signal cables for both the TV and the soundbar were routed through the wall via low-voltage pass-through plates down to the equipment location below. The finished wall was completely clean: a theater-scale TV, a soundbar below it, and absolutely no visible cables anywhere.
An 85″ TV with full in-wall power relocation is genuinely a premium-grade install, and the technical details are what separate it from a standard wall mount. At 85 inches, the TV weighs roughly 100 pounds — that’s a multi-person lift that requires the right crew, a mount rated well above the load, and anchoring across multiple studs because no single stud can safely carry the cantilevered weight. The in-wall power kit exists for a reason most homeowners don’t realize: it is illegal and unsafe to run a standard TV power cord inside a wall. Standard cords aren’t rated for in-wall use — doing it violates electrical code and creates a real fire risk. The proper fix is a UL-listed in-wall power transfer system that uses code-compliant in-wall rated wiring to relocate the outlet to right behind the TV, with a separate low-voltage pass-through for the HDMI and signal cables. Doing this correctly takes electrical knowledge, the right kit, and the patience to plan the routing around studs, wiring, and HVAC. The finished install looks the way it should: a clean wall with the TV floating on it.
