North Loop is one of Central Austin’s most quietly cool neighborhoods — the leafy grid of mid-century bungalows and ranch homes just east of Hyde Park and north of UT, where vintage shops on 53rd Street, longtime residents, and a wave of design-conscious renovators have made it one of the city’s most loved small-scale residential areas. The living rooms here tend to be cozy, considered, and design-aware, with homeowners who want their setups to look as intentional as everything else in the house. So when a North Loop homeowner reached out about mounting a 75″ Samsung TV with a Sonos Beam soundbar and external cord concealment, we knew this was the kind of install where every detail of the finish would matter.

The setup was a 75″ Samsung TV mounted on a low-profile fixed wall mount with a Sonos Beam mounted to the wall directly below, connected via HDMI eARC for full audio passthrough from the TV. The homeowner wanted a clean wall without cutting into the drywall — so instead of running cables in-wall, we used a paintable external cord cover (also called a cable raceway) that runs flush down the wall from the TV to the outlet. We located the studs, anchored the mount for the 75″ into solid framing, mounted the Sonos Beam below with exact spacing and a level laser line, and ran the cord cover in a perfectly straight vertical line from the TV down to where the equipment lives. The cord cover hides every cable, can be painted to match the wall color so it disappears against the paint, and leaves zero damage if it’s ever removed. Finished result: a 75″ TV, a Sonos Beam, and a clean wall with no visible cables.

External cord concealment is the right choice when a homeowner wants a clean wall but doesn’t want to cut into drywall — and it gets used more than people realize. The two situations where it’s the right call: when the homeowner is renting and can’t damage the wall, and when the homeowner owns but doesn’t want to invest in the wall surgery and electrical work that in-wall concealment requires (running cables in-wall is more expensive, takes longer, and requires a code-compliant in-wall power kit because standard TV cords aren’t legal in walls). External cord covers solve both situations. The skill is in mounting the TV solidly, routing the cover in a perfectly straight vertical line so it looks intentional rather than tacked-on, and painting the cover to match the wall so it visually disappears. Done right, you’d have to actively look for the cord cover to notice it’s there. The Sonos Beam install adds the audio piece — connected via HDMI eARC, the Beam delivers genuine cinema-quality sound from a soundbar small enough to mount under the TV without dominating the wall. Authorized Sonos dealer pricing and a one-appointment installation finish the package.
