Travis Heights is one of South Austin’s most beloved established neighborhoods — a hillside community east of South Congress and just south of Lady Bird Lake, where mid-century bungalows mix with newer builds and the streets above Stacy Park have become some of the most desirable in the city. The homeowners here tend to be design-conscious renovators with great taste, and the living rooms reflect it: clean lines, considered choices, and a clear preference for things that look like they belong. So when a Travis Heights homeowner reached out about mounting a 65″ TV with a soundbar in their living room, we knew the install had to land exactly the way the rest of the house already did.
The setup was a 65″ TV mounted on a low-profile fixed wall mount, with the homeowner’s soundbar mounted to the wall directly below. We located the studs, set the mount level and centered on the wall, and hung the TV with precise alignment. The soundbar was then mounted below with a level laser line and exact spacing between the two pieces — small enough that you don’t see it, consistent enough that the eye reads them as one composition. Cables were managed cleanly down to the equipment location, the soundbar was connected via HDMI eARC for full audio passthrough, and we tested everything from where the homeowner actually sits before we left.
A 65″ TV with a soundbar below it is one of the most common configurations we install, but the difference between a job that looks intentional and one that looks improvised comes down to a handful of details. The TV has to be anchored into studs (not just drywall) with a mount rated for the load — a 65″ TV weighs 50-70 pounds and isn’t something to take chances with. The level has to be dialed to the eye, not just to a tool, because those are sometimes slightly different on uneven walls. The spacing between the TV and the soundbar has to be consistent across the width and visually balanced — get it wrong by half an inch and the whole composition looks off. And the cable management has to be planned, not afterthought, because exposed cables in a finished room are the first thing a homeowner notices when they sit down. We do these as carefully as we do the complex ones, every time.
