Mueller is one of Austin’s most distinctive modern communities — the master-planned neighborhood east of I-35 built on the former airport site, where architect-designed homes, walkable streets, and design-forward families have made it one of the most in-demand places in the city for buyers who care about how their home actually functions day-to-day. The living rooms here are intentional, tech-integrated, and set up to work seamlessly with the smart home ecosystems Mueller residents tend to build across the whole house. So when a Mueller homeowner reached out about installing a 65″ Samsung OLED over their fireplace with an Apple TV and a Sonos amp completely hidden inside the wall behind it — and asked us to source the OLED through our authorized Samsung dealer relationship — we knew this was exactly the install where the tech had to disappear visually while working perfectly functionally, and where every equipment placement decision mattered.
The customer bought the 65″ Samsung OLED through Bat City TV at authorized dealer pricing — sold, delivered, and installed in one appointment by our technician Joe. Here’s the standout technical element: instead of the standard recessed wall box that just hides the power outlet and cable termination, this install used a larger recessed enclosure sized to house the customer’s Apple TV 4K AND their Sonos amp completely inside the wall cavity behind the TV. That’s a specialty install: both devices tucked cleanly out of sight, HDMI running from the Apple TV directly into the TV inside the wall, Sonos amp integrated into the customer’s existing whole-home Sonos ecosystem with speaker cable outputs routed through the wall to the ceiling speakers, and all of it powered by a code-compliant receptacle inside the box. Joe planned the box position around the studs, cut and framed the enclosure with the proper dimensions and ventilation for two heat-generating devices, and installed the TV over the whole assembly on a low-profile mount so the finished wall shows only the 65″ Samsung OLED. No equipment visible. No cables visible. No outlet visible. Full functionality preserved — Apple TV remote works through the drywall via infrared repeater, Sonos amp accessible via the Sonos app for whole-home control.
Hiding actual equipment inside a recessed wall box (as opposed to just hiding the power outlet) is a specialty install that requires planning most installers don’t do. Four things matter. First: box dimensions. A standard recessed TV outlet box is sized for a receptacle and cable termination — it won’t fit an Apple TV, let alone a Sonos amp. This install required a custom-cut enclosure sized to fit both devices with clearance for ventilation. Second: ventilation is genuinely critical. Both the Apple TV and the Sonos amp generate heat, and enclosing them inside a drywall cavity without airflow will cook them over months of daily use. Proper ventilation slots (or a small in-wall vent) let heat escape and keep the equipment within operating temperature. Third: remote functionality has to be planned. The Apple TV remote uses infrared, which doesn’t pass through drywall — so an infrared repeater or Bluetooth-enabled remote setup is required for the customer to actually operate the device. Fourth: access matters. Equipment inside a wall cavity eventually needs firmware updates, cable changes, or troubleshooting — the box has to be designed so it can be opened without demolishing the wall. Done right, the finished install gives the customer a completely clean fireplace wall with premium OLED picture quality, Apple TV streaming integrated invisibly, and Sonos audio flowing into their whole-home ecosystem — all with no visible equipment anywhere and no cables visible. Done wrong, you’ve cooked the customer’s equipment inside a wall cavity or built something they can’t access when it needs service.
