Georgetown is one of Central Texas’s most established communities north of Austin — the historic county seat of Williamson County along IH-35 with a preserved downtown square and established family neighborhoods stretching in every direction. The homes here range from downtown historic properties to newer master-planned communities around Sun City and Wolf Ranch, and the buyer psychology tracks with the community: settled, thoughtful, willing to invest in the right long-term choice rather than the cheapest short-term fix. So when a Georgetown homeowner reached out about installing their 55″ Sony TV with a professional in-wall power relocation kit rather than accepting a cord running down the wall, we knew this was the customer who wanted the install done right the first time and would appreciate the difference for years.
The setup was a 55″ Sony TV mounted on a low-profile fixed wall mount at proper viewing height with a UL-listed in-wall power relocation kit handling all power and signal cabling. The power kit includes two code-compliant receptacle boxes — one recessed behind the TV that plugs directly into the TV’s power cord, and one at standard outlet height near the floor where a normal wall outlet would be — connected internally by in-wall-rated wiring routed inside the wall cavity between the studs. Signal cabling (HDMI to any source devices, streaming stick power, etc.) routes through matching low-voltage pass-through plates at both locations. We anchored the TV mount into the studs (not drywall anchors — a 55″ Sony at 30-40 pounds cantilevered off the wall needs proper stud anchoring for long-term reliability), cut and installed both receptacle boxes to code, routed the wiring cleanly inside the wall, and hung the Sony level and centered. Finished install: 55″ Sony mounted cleanly against the wall with zero visible cabling anywhere — no cord running down the drywall, no signal cable draped down to the media console, no visual clutter breaking up the living room aesthetic.
In-wall power relocation kits are one of the specific install upgrades that separates a real professional install from what a handyman or big-box “installation add-on” service delivers, and understanding why is worth a minute. The most common cable-concealment mistake is running the TV’s power cord itself through the wall — that’s a National Electrical Code violation because standard TV power cords are not rated for in-wall use. Doing it that way is both dangerous (fire risk from cord damage inside the wall over time) and illegal under code, and it also voids the TV’s warranty. The correct professional approach is a UL-listed relocation kit: two code-compliant receptacle boxes connected by in-wall-rated wiring that IS rated for concealed installation. The TV plugs into the top receptacle behind it exactly like it plugs into any wall outlet, and the bottom receptacle plugs into the wall outlet exactly like any lamp. Everything is code-compliant and everything is warranty-safe. Signal cables (HDMI, etc.) route through separate low-voltage pass-through plates at both locations because low-voltage signal cabling has different rating requirements than power. Total install time on a straightforward drywall install is about 90 minutes to two hours if the wall is empty inside — longer if firebreaks or insulation need to be navigated around. The result is a clean install that will still look clean five years from now, without the code and safety compromises of shortcut approaches.
