Downtown Austin has grown into one of the most distinctive urban living environments in Texas — the high-rise condo corridor along Congress Avenue and the Colorado River, the Rainey Street district, the Warehouse District, and the 2nd Street corridor, where design-conscious professionals live in smaller square-footage spaces where every visual element in the room matters. In a downtown condo or high-rise apartment, a mounted TV isn’t the biggest thing in the room — but it’s often one of the most visible things, which means how it’s installed genuinely affects how the whole space feels. So when a Downtown Austin resident reached out about installing a 43″ Samsung Frame TV in their condo with a recessed wall box behind it so the TV would sit truly flush against the wall, we knew this was the exact kind of install where the “invisible art on the wall” promise had to be delivered without compromise.
The setup was a 43″ Samsung Frame TV mounted on its Slim Fit Wall Mount over a recessed wall box we installed behind the TV location. The recessed box is a hollow enclosure cut into the drywall that houses the One Connect Box cable, a code-compliant power outlet, and any signal cables — so the TV can press completely flat against the wall with zero standoff. Without a recessed box, even the Frame TV’s Slim Fit mount holds the TV about a half-inch off the wall because there has to be room behind it for the cable and outlet. With a recessed box, all of that goes into the wall cavity and the TV sits truly flush. We planned the box position around the studs (the box goes between studs, not through them), cut the drywall precisely, framed and installed the box with a code-compliant receptacle inside it, and mounted the Slim Fit bracket over it. Then the One Connect cable and power came in through the back of the box, and the Frame went on the wall like a picture. Finished result: 43″ Frame that reads as a piece of framed art hung on the wall — no visible cabling, no visible outlet, and no standoff between the TV and the drywall.
The recessed wall box is the piece of a Frame TV install that most homeowners don’t know exists, and it’s the difference between “Frame TV close to the wall” and “Frame TV truly flush against the wall.” Here’s the technical reality. Samsung’s Slim Fit Wall Mount (which comes included with the Frame) is engineered to hold the TV as close to the wall as possible, but there’s always some standoff — typically about half an inch — because the One Connect cable and the power outlet have to go somewhere behind the TV. That half-inch standoff is often invisible from head-on but visible from any angle other than dead-center. For a Frame TV in a small room where the buyer walks past it or sees it from multiple angles throughout the day, that standoff can subtly break the “art on the wall” effect. A recessed wall box solves it completely. The box is a hollow enclosure that gets cut and framed into the drywall between studs behind the TV location, containing the power receptacle and the One Connect cable termination. With the box installed, the TV presses truly flush against the wall — zero standoff, zero visible depth from any angle. It’s a specialized install that most techs don’t offer because it requires drywall cutting, in-wall framing, and code-compliant receptacle work inside the box. Done right, the recessed box is the difference between “nice TV install” and “did I just walk past a framed painting.”
